JULEMÆRKEFONDEN

Each year, 1,000 children in Denmark get a fresh start at a Julemærkehjem. These are children who face loneliness, bullying, and social isolation daily. They are sad children whose self-esteem has been damaged by too many setbacks and failed attempts to belong. Many also struggle with overweight. At Julemærkehjem, they regain confidence, find new courage for life, and enjoy a daily routine of healthy food, exercise, and—most importantly—friends and smiles. Currently, hundreds of children are on the waiting list for a stay, and the wait is tough for children facing difficulties. The results last: children are followed up for a year after their stay, showing many maintain a healthy lifestyle and thrive at school with peers and friends—without bullying. Julemærkefonden is a private aid organization, and the work at Julemærkehjem is almost entirely funded by donations. For over 100 years, support from sources like Christmas stamp sales has sustained Julemærkehjem, which has helped vulnerable children in Denmark. Around 80,000 children have received help over time.
